City parking usually falls into two categories: on-street parking controlled by the local council, and off-street car parks run by either the council or private operators. The rules – and the way tickets are challenged – are different for each.
Useful tips
- Check the time plates on signs for controlled hours and maximum stay.
- Watch for Clean Air Zones or Low Emission Zones, which are separate from parking charges.
- Keep proof of payment, such as a screenshot of your app confirmation.
- If you receive a ticket, identify whether it came from a council or a private company first.
